It does not have a battery but DC power leads are included to provide DC power 7 to 16 volts from an external power supply. I could hear local stations and checked into a local NET. I measured the transmitter output power into a resistive 50 ohm load at 4 watts on high and .5 on low using 13.7 volts DC. It has TONES (CTCSS). Not all functions where tested.
